“Olsen, Thorkild Osvald, 1890-1973 was a painter and ceramist. He was born 7.7.1890 in Glumsø and died 30.4.1973 in Frederiksberg.

Thorkild Olsen made a significant contribution during the over 60 years of employment at The Royal Porcelain Factory. He worked with both modeling and decoration, especially over and under glaze painting, and he contributed to the development of glazes. In Olsen's early works, for example a series of works in 1920s Crackle porcelain, the decoration in iron and gold is naturalistic, most often with botanical motifs. Later, the decoration was stylized to finally become abstraction based on the naturalization that played an important role for him, but still in the 1950s we saw our wild flora reproduced at the Primavera dining room. Also in his careful, careful painting, the foundation was constantly naturalism. The abstract ornament, also used in woodcarving and dust printing, used Olsen in the 1950s to work in soft porcelain with decorations in the ancient Chinese pourpre de chine glaze that was rebuilt in the late 1940s and for decorations with pink royal glass. With traditional gold print, and an innovative cool variant of this. In the last decades of production, he was most advantageously noted for his work in blanc de chine with cuts and reliefs that emphasize the mass transparency.

Olsen did a preliminary Examination 1906; Student at the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory under Arnold Krog May 1908; Technical School, Arts Academy Copenhagen. January 1911 Jan. 1914th.

Olsen travelled to Norway 1912, 1913, 1914, 1915, 1936, 1937, 1938 and later; Germany, Austria 1921; England 1925; France, including Southern France 1925, 1935, 1938 …; Italy 1930; Belgium 1935.

Olsen was employed at the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory from 1908, head of Juliane Marie Overglaze department and painted in 1918; Teacher at Kunsthandværker School 1926-29.”
